It will be available throughout July. Kid and the Child are confronted by armed ruffians on a mission.  Kid sings, “The leader there among them had a scar that caught my eye. It was a blackened carved out of his cheek. We laid there in silent awe, as he began to speak. He said, ‘We have orders to take the girl away.’ I stood to defend her, as they moved in on their prey. A struggle then ensued. I was beaten to the ground. When my eyes came back to focus, She’s nowhere to be found!”

June Song of the Month: “Child of Rock and Roll” https://craigherbergmusic.com/june-song-of-the-month-child-of-rock-and-roll https://craigherbergmusic.com/june-song-of-the-month-child-of-rock-and-roll#comments Wed, 01 Jun 2016 19:18:25 +0000 http://craigherbergmusic.com/?p=118 Read Now]]> Child of Rock and Roll is the tenth song of the month and the penultimate  story in the rock opera. It will be available throughout June. This completes the metamorphosis of Kid from badass to believer.  He sings apocalyptically, “The Child raced through burning streets, with just one thing to say. If you will only take my hand, I’ll show you a better way.”  If you enjoy this song, please share on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks for listening!

May Songs of the Month: “Interlude” and “Dancing Girl” https://craigherbergmusic.com/may-songs-of-the-month-interlude-and-dancing-girl https://craigherbergmusic.com/may-songs-of-the-month-interlude-and-dancing-girl#respond Sun, 01 May 2016 22:45:53 +0000 http://craigherbergmusic.com/?p=110 Read Now]]> Interlude and Dancing  Girl are the eighth and ninth songs of the month.  Both  entire songs will be available throughout May. Spoiler alert: Interlude is only 37 seconds long.  It is a brief skit setting the stage in a bar, which is where Dancing Girl takes place.  In Dancing Girl, badass biker Kid shows his softer side. Instead of singing, “I could sure hit that,”  he sings, “Dancing Girl, you look so lonely. Let me hold you for a while.”  Kid’s metamorphosis continues.  If you enjoy these songs, please share on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks for listening!

The entire song will be available throughout April. After a return visit from the Queen of Darkness, and in light of all the messed up things he has done, Kid starts to come unhinged and becomes racked with guilt. To makes matters worse, he is followed by people who know all about his past and future: The Boys With the Special Eyes.  If you enjoy this song, please share on Facebook and Twitter. March Song of the Month: Playing with Fire Dying to Burn https://craigherbergmusic.com/march-song-of-the-month-playing-with-fire-dying-to-burn https://craigherbergmusic.com/march-song-of-the-month-playing-with-fire-dying-to-burn#comments Tue, 01 Mar 2016 17:45:28 +0000 http://craigherbergmusic.com/?p=92 Read Now]]> Playing with Fire Dying to Burn is the sixth song of the month. The entire song will be available throughout March. The Queen of Darkness comes back to remind Kid that he traded his soul to her. I think you will recognize the vocal contributions of guest performers Q. O. Darkness and the Satanic Choir. To properly set the mood, this song is written as a waltz, just like the waltzes I remember from cotillion when I grew up in Arlington. If you enjoy this, please share on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks for listening!

February Song of the Month: D. C. Summer Night https://craigherbergmusic.com/february-song-of-the-month-d-c-summer-night https://craigherbergmusic.com/february-song-of-the-month-d-c-summer-night#comments Mon, 01 Feb 2016 22:38:10 +0000 http://craigherbergmusic.com/?p=82 Read Now]]> D. C. Summer Night is the fifth song of the month and the album title song. The entire song will be available throughout February. Kid arrives in Washington, D. C., as a defiant badass, and after witnessing street violence up close and personal, he becomes a scared badass. Although it may seem to be a distinction without a difference, you will see in the next few songs that Kid’s life is changed forever. The song starts out as a ballad, with crickets accompanied by grand piano. Even as drums, 12-string guitar and bass join in, it stays a ballad until about 45 seconds in, at which time it becomes considerably more upbeat, and tension continues to build until. . . You are just going to have to listen to find out! Thanks for listening.

January Song of the Month: Prisoner of the Highway https://craigherbergmusic.com/january-song-of-the-month-prisoner-of-the-highway https://craigherbergmusic.com/january-song-of-the-month-prisoner-of-the-highway#respond Fri, 01 Jan 2016 20:31:53 +0000 http://craigherbergmusic.com/?p=76 Read Now]]> Prisoner of the Highway is the fourth song of the month. The entire song will be available throughout January. A secret message about Kid opens the song, the contents of which may give a clue about his status; however, it is clear that he hit the road because he was run out of town. About 1:46 in, fast-paced rock turns frenetic, in a section I call “Chaos in 11/8.” It begins with grand piano abuse (if that wasn’t a thing before, it is now) and ends (hopefully) with your chest thumping. After a transition to rock and roll, it ends on a more thoughtful note, with just grand piano and spoken words. How do you like the mood changes? Thanks for listening.

December Song of the Month: Black Book Man https://craigherbergmusic.com/december-song-of-the-month-black-book-man https://craigherbergmusic.com/december-song-of-the-month-black-book-man#respond Wed, 02 Dec 2015 00:37:56 +0000 http://craigherbergmusic.com/?p=69 Read Now]]> Black Book Man is the third song of the month. The entire song will be available throughout December. A nasty Chicago sounding tenor saxophone opens the song, which is a fitting introduction to the man who recently sold his soul to the Queen of Darkness. About halfway into the song, funky saxophone kicks in and transitions into a real down and dirty crescendo. After a brief return to “normalcy,” the song suddenly changes mood from rock to funky jazz. After a bout of funkiness, against convention, the song modulates against the grain — downward, to create tension. Hopefully, it got your attention.

November Song of the Month: Queen of Darkness https://craigherbergmusic.com/november-song-of-the-month-queen-of-darkness https://craigherbergmusic.com/november-song-of-the-month-queen-of-darkness#respond Mon, 02 Nov 2015 02:11:35 +0000 http://craigherbergmusic.com/?p=55 Read Now]]> Queen of Darkness is the second song of the month. The entire song will be available throughout November. A haunting electric guitar, interesting percussion, and a great group of background singers for the chorus are featured. At about 2:20, the vocal sounds like it is descending into the depths of Hades. That is not accidental, considering the subject of the song.

October Song of the Month: The Kid https://craigherbergmusic.com/october-song-of-the-month-the-kid https://craigherbergmusic.com/october-song-of-the-month-the-kid#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2015 11:29:44 +0000 http://craigherbergmusic.com/?p=42 Read Now]]> The Kid is the first song of the month. The entire song will be available throughout October. An extraordinary blues harp player is featured. At about 2:45 in, he gets the nod to bring his “A” game.

At the end of the song, a Harley speeds by. It was recorded with two pressure zone mics (PZMs) underneath my car, and the Harley came within a few feet of the mics. The sound can be pretty wall-shaking!
